uh...group meeting #1

Hi everyone, we had our first group meeting yesterday! yay! It was a lot of fun seeing everyone's ideas for their films and getting to talk with other teammates.

The meetings were random, which wasn't going to be an issue because lowkey I don't really talk to anyone in my class, so I didn't really care about who was in my group. But, if you want to know, Maia, Mia, Isabela, Emma, Giovanna, and Vanessa.

Me and The Group

Overall, the meeting was really informative and was actually really helpful for me. In fact, I actually have an idea for my opening now, which I am actually really happy with the idea I came up
with! But, the group helped me come up with the idea, so, I owe it to them for some inspiration.

When it was my turn to present my ideas for my opening, I did not know what to talk about. Even though we had two full weeks to come up with ideas for the opening, I was still stuck thinking about a specific opening. I knew I wanted to do some kind of drama/comedy opening, so, I told the group I wanted to do this genre, but that I did not have a concrete idea.

Out of the blue, I said that I wanted to have an opening about a conversation between two very different personalities, where one person is super extraverted and one person is super introverted, so it feels like a conversation that is very one sided. The group members liked the idea and gave suggestions about what the conversation should be about. One of suggestions alluded how the extraverted person should talk about a random fact. I liked the idea, but also said that the dialogue of "random facts" would not develop a complete narrative for the film. Overall, through our conversations we did not directly come up with an idea for me.

I say "directly", because the idea for my film actually stemmed from someone elses discussion. You see, I was the fourth person in the group to present, but, the sixth person, Emma, actually had a pretty unique idea for their opening which indirectly gave me an idea. Emma had an idea for her thriller/horror opening where a woman is kept in a room that looks like a prison. Her idea was unique, but, it also reminded me of a phenomenon i've seen a lot in recent media I have consumed. The phenomenon of "Shut-Ins" is something I have seen a lot within the past few months and is a main topic I want to discuss in my film now. I actually find the idea really unique, where people shut themselves into their room, usually due to a traumatic event, where they would rather sit in the comfort of their room at all times rather than going out into the world, which they may perceive as dangerous. In my next blog, I want to talk about the media I have seen this phenomenon and actual research on the real-life cases of the problem.

But, that's for another day. The group meeting was extremely helpful for me and I found an idea for my film! It was also great to give advice to other people, both because it was most likely helpful for them, and broaden my horizons into new film opening genres.

But, yeah, that's about it for it for this blog... wait... in the group, we also talked about our blogs, and I kind of realized that I should be more "like myself" in these blogs. It's my blog, so, I realize that I don't have to be overly formal. So.... yeah, expect more jokes and stuff.

Ok, that's actually it... progress is going well and I am actually really excited to make a script in the following days.
